2020 – JANUARY
Happy New Year!!
CANCER & Cancer Rising
2019 has likely been a tough year Cancer. The good news is 2020 looks a heck of a lot brighter. Jupiter will be casting positive rays over your marriage and commitments sector clear through December of 2020. Its recent arrival, in early December of 2019, may already have hinted the best is yet to come. However, as Saturn and Pluto, also in Capricorn, set the stage for the year, it will take some time to finally bring pressing matters to a close AND readjust, settling into new circumstances. Before we jump too far ahead let’s work through the month of January chronologically, touching on a several patterns that began quite a few years ago.
First, on January 3, energy packed Mars will move into your health/routine sector. Here Mars can work like magic if you are hoping to start a new health regime or are vying for control and mastery over day-to-day matters. If you typically work according to a schedule set for you it’s even possible to make adjustments that better fit your needs. That’s the positive side of having an assertive planet like Mars in this position.
On the not-so-positive side you can be argumentative, pushing for more than is reasonably your due. Trying to take on too much, more than can reasonably be accomplished in a short amount of time is another not-so-great tendency. In either case, it can have an effect on your health. Needless to say, ‘working it out’ is probably best done at the gym. To be clear, it’s not just for physical reasons rather it is an ideal way to channel pent up emotional energy and deal with your frustrations.
Speaking of pent of emotional energies, the Lunar Eclipse in your sign on January 10th is set to stir your soul Cancer. It is one of the most significant eclipses in the Cancer/Capricorn series. As it draws to full, it will be within a few degrees of the subsequent Saturn & Pluto conjunction on January 12th. That said, this eclipse cannot be discussed without considering the influence Saturn & Pluto have had up until this point.
In 2008 Pluto crossed into your solar partnership sector. It moves slowly. So while you may have felt a change in atmosphere at that time, no outstanding events may come to mind. Still, as Pluto has been steadily making its way through Capricorn undoubtedly you will have noticed that relationships, business partnerships or responsibilities suffered from extremes. Perhaps you experienced profound endings such as a divorce, or on the flip side, ended your single life. In essence, a push to re-consider where and to whom you devoted your energy has been part of Pluto’s plan to transform how you relate to others. It has done so, and continues to do so, in a rather unsettling manner.
Your solar seventh house, governed by Capricorn, typically reflects parts of yourself you 1. have rejected, refuse to acknowledge and 2. are able to acknowledge somewhat but are not entirely comfortable admitting. It is where we are most likely to engage in projection. As Pluto tends to draw up our darker side then, it provokes the need to accept yourself fully and completely. In other words, Pluto in this position compels one to take a good hard look in mirror. Sounds a bit scary doesn’t it? The truth is, by the time Pluto moves on from this space you will have gone through quite the transformational process that leaves you feeling stronger than ever.
Saturn did not enter your seventh house until December of 2017. It has had a different agenda. It encourages rebuilding, taking responsibility for who/what you choose to devote your time to even when the going gets tough. So, as you can see, while Pluto has been breaking things down, Saturn has been insistent you work on building things back up in a new an improved way.
It should be noted that both Saturn and Pluto are also apt to create issues around property you own, family and career matters. Whatever the case, lessons left unlearned from this heavy-handed duo are likely to arise periodically until Saturn carries on into Aquarius, briefly this year, but for a longer stay in 2021 and Pluto exits in 2023. They, of course, will also join forces on January 12th broadcasting the same message they have been for a while except with greater intensity this time. It is a peak moment. If you have indeed heeded Saturn and Pluto’s warnings, so to speak, it’s possible this moment comes and goes with ease.
Returning to the Eclipse on January 10th then, you can expect any of these aforementioned themes to be activated. It may be useful to look back at events during the eclipses in 2018 and 2019. Each Eclipse has a span of influence of six months. Every ‘shift’ that occurs feeds into the type of experience likely to manifest during the subsequent eclipse. Here is the list of eclipse dates in this series.
July 12th, 2018 – Solar Eclipse in Cancer
January 5th, 2019 – Solar Eclipse in Capricorn
July 2nd, 2019 – Solar Eclipse in Cancer
July 16th, 2019 – Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn
December 25th, 2019 – Solar Eclipse in Capricorn
There are three more (dates below), including the one on January 10th remaining before the North Node shifts into Gemini on June 5th, 2020. (Read more about the Gemini/Sagittarius Eclipses in June 2020’s forecast):
January 10th, 2020 – Lunar Eclipse in Cancer
June 5th, 2020 – Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius
June 20th, 2020 – Solar Eclipse in Cancer
July 5th, 2020 – Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn
On January 11th Uranus stations direct in Taurus. Your social life will be, in a way, waking up. Between now and August you may choose to separate from a group of people, or change the way you behave on social media platforms. That could be a good or bad thing in this case. Uranus is an often quick to act and react, highly changeable and wholly unpredictable. It too can provoke the dormant rebel in you to pop up quite unexpectedly.
Just before the second week of January wraps up travel may be on your mind. Perhaps you start thinking going back to school or attending a workshop. As Venus glides into Pisces on January 13th you’re in dreamland, desiring a different experience, wanting more from life Cancer. Perhaps, in tandem with Uranus’ awakening, someone intriguing catches your eye who has a different lifestyle than your own. This is turn can be a source of inspiration to look at life from a different perspective.
Over the second half of the month a strong Aquarian influence further incites the need for a refresh. And it seems you’ll be focused on your finances, discovering a need to re-manage your funds. It’s possible you receive money unexpectedly or, conversely, are surprised by the amount on your credit card statement, bills or legal fees.
In short you will want to take care of business on the financial front before taking advantage of the new life awaiting, so to speak. For instance, if you are going through divorce proceedings it will be important to keep the long-term view in mind. Proposed quick fixes or holding onto a stubborn attitude to achieve what you want in the moment can limit the possibilities down the road. The same is true if you find yourself in a power struggle with bosses, authority figures, parents. Be aware that life can be unnecessarily tough if emotional waves rise muddying your perceptions. The over-riding Capricorn and Aquarius influence will encourage you to keep ‘this’ all business. That said with Mercury, the Sun, and New Moon on the 24,th in Aquarius, it should be easier than normal to maintain an objective stance …for the most part.
The New Moon on the 24th, and Neptune’s interaction with Venus and Mars on the 27th and 28th respectively, may be ‘one of those times’ where maintaining clear vision won’t be as easy. The New Moon sits in a harsh angle to Uranus, once again emphasizing unexpected developments in regard to finances, work, your social world. News about a co-worker could send you spinning, incite the need to rebel. In another vein, relationships can take on a confusing quality. Needless to say emotional waves may indeed rise. You may find yourself asking in bewilderment ‘what the heck is going on?’. Remember, taking an all-business approach can do much to settle the swells.
As January tapers off then, it seems the vibes of 2020 are intent on shaking you up for the soul purpose of setting you straight on a new and definite road forward. Where you choose to commit your energy, and how you purpose to build yourself up from ‘here’ is of greater importance than usual. In fact, it seems you are in the midst of milestone moment. It would not be surprising if, when you look back years from now you think of this time as ‘where it all started’. Choose wisely Cancer. Take the time to set yourself up for success.
